Birmingham International Passenger Traffic continues to rise

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport continues to experience an increase in passenger traffic. Over 272,000 travelers passed through Birmingham in the month of April. This brings the running total for 2008 to 1, 017, 215 passengers. The month of April proves to be the highest on record dating back to 2001. Despite the discontinuation of air service by Express Jet, Birmingham International traffic has risen 5.1% above this time last year. In late 2007, Express Jet discontinued non-stop service to New Orleans and has exited the market under their banner in April; they continue to operate in partnership with Continental Airlines at Birmingham International.

Birmingham International and its leadership strive to continue serving the region with competitive pricing and convenient travel. "We are optimistic on traffic for the upcoming summer months. We will continue to seek opportunities to improve Birmingham International as our commitment to the community, city and region we serve." Said, Al Denson, President/CEO, Birmingham Airport.
